The Four Pillars of My Digital Marketing: Paid Media, SEO/AEO, CRO and Lifecycle Email
Growth rarely comes from one channel. I build every engagement on four pillars, each one feeding the others. Paid media buys the first customers. SEO and AEO compound them for free. CRO makes every visit worth more. Lifecycle email keeps customers coming back. Here's what each pillar means in practice, with results from my own work.
What are the four pillars of digital marketing I work in?
- Paid media and performance marketing
- Organic SEO and AEO (answer engine optimization)
- Conversion rate optimization (CRO)
- Lifecycle and email marketing
How do I approach paid media and performance marketing?
I manage to ROAS, not to vanity metrics: high-intent targeting, staged bidding, steady budget pacing and constant A/B testing. In one 8-month stretch I generated $3.4M+ at a 4x ROAS for clients across industries. → How I run paid media
How do SEO and AEO fit together?
SEO gets you ranked. AEO gets you quoted by AI answer engines. Both reward the same fundamentals:
- structured data
- descriptive alt text
- meta descriptions
- clean HTML
- strong internal links and anchor text
- unique above-the-fold copy
The same discipline applies to app stores: as Digital Marketing Manager at Newsly, I used app store optimization to help take the Newsly app to #1 on the U.S. App Store and Google Play Store.
Why does CRO multiply every other channel?
Traffic you've paid for is wasted if it doesn't convert. As Conversion Optimization Manager at Merchant North, I increased conversions by 217% with personalization, trust banners and geographic segmentation. → How I approach CRO
What does lifecycle and email marketing add?
Retention. I've managed email programs from a 13,000-subscriber technical audience, where I lifted open rates from 20% to 35%, up to a 3.4-million-subscriber base.
How do the four pillars work together?
A practical example from my own e-commerce work: as founder of GDK Tech, I built three profitable stores on eBay, Etsy and Shopify.
- Paid ads on Google, Facebook, TikTok and Reddit reached a 5x ROI.
- SEO brought organic traffic.
- Customer relationship management kept buyers coming back.
Each pillar made the others cheaper. → Founder, GDK Tech
Which pillar should a new venture start with?
My advice: start where the feedback is fastest. For most new ventures that means paid media to validate demand, with CRO on the landing page from day one. Then I'd layer in SEO/AEO for compounding traffic and email to keep the customers you've won. Every business is different, so treat this as a starting point, not a rule.
